CQ14 Group

CQ14 is one of the Regional Groups of the Contemporary Quilt Group of the Quilters' Guild. CQ14 meet on Saturdays 6 times a year. We are currently creating a group quilt for the Festival of Quilts. We plan to hang a set of quilts together as a single piece, each A3 quilt having "Thin Red Line" as it's inspiration.

Work In Progress

Progress

  • Claire has faced her quilt, I think this could work really well for the whole piece.
  • Claire suggested that we did a common binding. I have thought about this a lot and I hope that the red line will be sufficient. The binding style and colour can be a an integral part of a quilt and it would be great if we could each make our own choice. We can see what the first couple of quilts look like and make a decision then.

Particpants

So far the following people have expressed an interest in being part of the project:
  • Carolyn
  • Claire
  • Heather
  • Kath
  • Kathleen
  • Kathryn
  • Lisa
  • Pippa
  • Sandra
  • Val

Rules

  1. The quilt should be A3 portrait.
  2. The quilt should feature a thin red line which crosses the quilt horizontally. It can go from anywhere on the left edge to anywhere on the right edge.
  3. Each quilt should be finished appropriately for the style of that quilt.
  4. A 3” wide D-shaped sleeve must be attached to the back, set 1/2” from the top edge and 1” from the sides. It must be able to accommodate a wooden batten see the guidelines on www.cqchallenges.org  for advice, but start with an 8” piece of fabric instead of 10”.
  5. The group quilt will need to conform to the FOQ rules, you can find all the details on www.thefestivalofquilts.co.uk/rules-for-entering/
  6. The entry form has to be received by Friday 24th May, so we will need to have all the quilts which will be part of the group entry before that time so that we know the overall width. I suggest that we make the deadline for completion of each quilt as Saturday 27th April. I can’t be at the CQ14 meeting, but I could collect all the quilts from someone when I get back, the following weekend.
  7. You need to be happy for your quilt to be sent to the NEC Birmingham for the festival of quilts and accept the risk that a quilt could be lost or stolen. I’m not sure how I would enter, there doesn’t seem to be the option to drop off at York this year. The most likely is that I would post the quilt using either Royal Mail or a courier. Unless I make several individual quilts it wouldn’t make much sense to take it to the NEC on the Monday.
