Simple Door Hanger
This quilted project involves a hand stitched suffolk puff (yo-yo), a hand sewn button and straight stitching.
1. Cut a 5cm by 30cm long rectangle of green fabric on the bias.
2. Fold this over a piece of wadding 4.5cm by 14cm.
3. Use a contrasting thread to sew a line of quilting stitches down the middle to make a ‘stem’. This line of running stitches holds all the three layers together.
4. Cut a circle of bright fabric about 12cm in diameter – an old CD makes a great template.
5. Using a long thread, sew a line of small running stitches around the outside about 5mm from the edge. Pull the thread tight and you have made a Suffolk Puff or Yo-Yo.
6. Attach the Yo-Yo to the fold end of the hanger, with a button covering the raw edge of the fabric. Now sew a thread under the top fold, tie it off and hang up.
Variations.
Instead of of the thread a piece of ribbon looks lovely.
You could also use a length of fancy knitting wool which might be cheaper than a piece of ribbon.
